This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember doing activities in school where you weren't sure if you were doing it right or not? These Hot Dot activities give our preschool students instant feedback on their work in a fun and engaging way.
Our students are 2-5 year olds with developmental delays.
Some of them have different challenges such as autism or ADHD. Our class has up to 16 students working at different skills levels. We work with them to catch up to their typical peers before entering Kindergarten. Our school has a high percentage of economically challenged families so supplies and materials can be limited.
My Project
Our students will be using these Hot Dot pen activities on a daily basis to work on shapes, colors, letters, patterns, and problem solving skills. The pens give instant feedback with cheerful phrases indicating a right or wrong answer. The students will take turns using the 2 pens during leveled activities appropriate for their level of functioning. Being able to complete activities without adult assistance will help build a sense of independence and confidence that we will foster throughout their time with us. We can use these materials in both big and small group activities. Young students tend to have short attention spans and having numerous activities is important to keeping them engaged. The variety of skills these sets work on will help to keep them interested. The talking pens keeps young learners excited to practice skills repeatedly in a fun and innovative way.
These materials will be used with students of all levels.
They focus on basic and vital knowledge and skills that are the foundation blocks of success in school. The nature of the Hot Dot pens will help students to learn to work independently. They can also be used to practice sharing and listening skills. These activities will be used year after year.
