Music can change you. Music can change the world. My students are my world. They love musical activities. They love learning about different cultures. They love playing the drums and xylophones. They love being a part of a team in a safe environment for music making. They love feeling accomplished in music even though they may not shine in math, reading, science or social studies. They love the feeling that music gives them. They love experiencing teamwork by playing an instrument. They love being able to forget about their troubles and escape to a place where they can enjoy themselves and be children.
I have seen what a positive impact music has on children.
Especially in a low-income area. My students need music. My students thrive in music. My students experience joy through music. Cheryl Lavender stated it best when she said: "the fact that children can make beautiful music is less significant than the fact that music can make beautiful children". Playing different instruments, singing, moving and experiencing music leads my students to not only become better musicians but also better people.
My Project
This four-day conference inspires music teachers from across the state by giving teachers new ideas. The conference is packed with sessions every hour of the day that are targeted directly at the subjects that I teach. I can attend orchestra sessions, general music sessions, exceptional learner sessions and so much more.
Attending this conference allows me to learn invaluable lessons and gives me the ability to inspire my students when I return!
My students will be able to use these activities to become well-rounded musicians and productive citizens of society. Being able to collaborate with hundreds of other music educators is an incredible experience that will allow me to continue learning and being an effective teacher.
