Musical Therapy can prove very calming for children with autism. It also helps them to learn different concepts that they may not grasp through other methods. I teach 6 five year old children, all diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum. They are all learning at the kindergarten level. In our classroom, we use music to teach and reinforce everything from the letters of the alphabet to identifying our body parts. In addition, at selected times, it provides a calming and relaxing influence which the children appear to enjoy. We currently do not have a radio in our classroom and have been borrowing from other classrooms on a daily basis. It would be greatly appreciated if we could receive a combination radio/CD player along with some CDs, so that we could apply musical therapy in our classroom more often.
