My Students

Technology is at the center of what students spend most of their spare time. I offer our high school students a music and technology class. This class helps students use 21st century technology to create and record music.

My students live in the state of Iowa.

The town is fairly large for our state and very diverse. The poverty level is also very high. Our school has around 1200 students and is 9th - 12th grade. Most of my students do not own a computer at home or any type of music technology.

My Project

I built a music technology lab three years ago. This lab has been used everyday by many students. Over time there has been a lot of wear on all of the equipment. We are in need of headphones, a microphone and a set of studio monitors. Currently we only have one microphone and when my class needs to record we can only record on one computer at a time. The headphones I have purchased three years ago are falling apart and I could really use another set. Lastly, we only have one set on monitors and they are connected to my computer. So another set would be great because it is very hard to hear the full range of music through built-in computer speakers.

This project is important because I am teaching students skills that they will take with them for the rest of their life.

Even if they do not choose music as a career my students will be able to create music using 21st century skills.
