My students make up the band at a rural Title I school in Florida with 80% of our student population on free and reduced breakfast and lunch.
My students have the same mental potential as others in the nation, but our school lacks the resources to fully tap into and harness this potential.
With the right resources, this school and our students could really shine.
The band is made up of 6th, 7th and 8th graders, who play brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments.
Our band has grown over the past few years, which is a great problem to have! Part of accommodating any growing classroom is making sure you have supplies for all of your students. This is where we're currently falling short- we don't have enough music stands for each student to have one when we perform.
At our concerts, the first time parents see their kids play with the beginning band, they are sitting two, or sometimes even three to a stand.
With your help, we will get more stands, so that everyone will be able to see and play their own music!
