This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is in a high poverty area with 100% of students on free or reduced lunch. The music department serves 230 students this year in band, orchestra, and choral classes. My students are very enthusiastic about the subject and make miracles happen. We have been functioning with the basics and we’d like to spruce up the program to give them all a better experience in music class! Students respect and dutifully take care of what they have. I’d like to grow the equipment so they have a fuller experience in class.

My Project

We are in desperate need of a set of wind chimes. They add magic to music you cannot emulate with other instruments. Students have been begging for one but we’ve been able to fundraiser enough for a set.

Students currently use rickety music stands that are graffitied up from a prior generation.

I’m hoping to provide them stands they can be proud of. They are essential to holding music at the proper height for students. Ours currently wobble and fall; let’s get them safe ones.

Lastly, tuners will make students much more independent and able to diagnose their own playing better. These will help them grow as budding musicians.
