My students need a Wii console, 3 extra controllers and the two games in our proposal (Just Dance and Gold's Gym Dance Workout) for fitness collaboration in music/phys ed.
Play a part in helping our kids stay healthy and fit! Phys ed and music teams collaborate often to benefit our kids. This time it is to help fight childhood obesity in the current generation of school kids.
Our students are curious about world music and cultures and enjoy a hands on approach to learning and creating music in our school.
We'd like to team music and phys ed together to learn some dance moves that will help the kids get their groove on while also staying active and physically fit. I serve two schools that are housed within one building. Two music teachers team-teach the 675 kids and see them two times per week for 30-minutes each time. The kids are K-5 and come from diverse backgrounds. We have a high percentage of low-income families and also we are a 70% minority population school. One school is a traditional elementary school while the other is a bi-lingual immersion public charter school.
My Project
The items requested in this proposal would assist in developing a collaboration between music and phys ed in helping kids fight childhood obesity. The multiple controllers would allow us to have a representative student from each class involved be "scored" by the game while the entire gym full of students would be dancing simultaneously. We'd keep track of points for each class to see who can make it to the wall of fame. The school does not have its own Wii console yet, which is why it is in this proposal. However, Wii Fit has already been purchased. The songs in Just Dance have school appropriate selections for K-5 and allow for short or long versions to be utilized. Also there is an in-game difficulty/effort rating so that we can design classes to expand the students stamina. As a result of using the Wii, controllers and Just Dance coupled with the Dance Workout & Wii Fit, students will be engaged in physical play while continuing to develop their sense of rhythm in music.
Students today are not as active as they used to be due to a variety of factors.
This purchase will help motivate students to keep moving to stay fit. Also, students who attend public and school dances will have appropriate movements to utilize without defaulting to the "head bob and foot shuffle." Thank you for your kindness & support!
