Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like when you first fell in love with music? Our students absolutely love playing the violin and cello but we are in need of instruments.
In our all-girls dual-language school, every student learns how to play the violin as part of the curriculum.
Currently we teach 300 students and selected students are chosen to be in the cello program. Our school is located in the lowest socio-economic area in the country and access to quality instruments is limited. The music program starts in kindergarten and follows the Suzuki Method. This way music truly becomes a part of who they are as individuals, even when there are many outside influences. Our school's vision is to build future woman leaders.
My Project
With these new instruments, our students will be able to become well-rounded musicians and individuals. Music is a part of everyday life here at school and our girls enjoy music class very much. Our upper grades have performed throughout NYC, for the Borough President, the Speaker of the House, at the Metropolitan Museum, and various other venues. The students have so much pride and sparkle when they perform! With this cello, more students will have access to these opportunities.
Our school is in need of cellos and would greatly appreciate any help.
We are located in the South Bronx and any contribution is extremely valuable. Music is a part of our students' lives and with your help they can continue playing the cello and growing as musicians.
