I teach music at a school in suburban South Carolina. These students make up forty-seven classes in grades Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade, including special ed, regular ed, and gifted students. Many of these students come from low income families and they rely on teachers or the school for their materials. All of my students love new experiences. They are always eager to get involved in learning.
Our mascot is the “Busy Bee” and we certainly stay busy trying to make every moment count in music class!
My Project
I would like my music students to be recognized for their hard work during class each day. Each day in music class, a "Student of the Day" is chosen. This is someone who goes above and beyond demonstrating music skills as well as good behavior. This student gets a paper award with their name on it and a prize out of our classroom treasure box. I teach 7 classes each day so the number of awards and prizes really adds up! We also give out "Bee Bucks" to students showing exemplary or model behavior. These are printed on card stock for durability and can be saved to shop at the school "Bee Buck Store".

Kids are so proud when they are chosen as the "Student of the Day". Parents have told me how much their children love earning this award. The paper awards and items for the treasure box (bracelets, balloons, bubbles, and toy assortments) will keep my students motivated to do their busy bee best the entire year.
