Help me give my students a laptop for our music class, a rhythm stick activity kit, magnetic building STEM sets, frog percussion instruments, storytelling puppets and lap board, and incentives for our classroom.
Our elementary school is located in a suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah. We are in our fourth year, and we are still growing in population. I have taught various grades in elementary school for the past 14 years, but recently I have become the Music Specialist, and I am LOVING it! Teaching the arts is my passion. I enjoy helping every student learn and appreciate music.
My students are eager to participate in class; they look forward to playing instruments and creating music.
My students come form a variety of backgrounds and ages. They are in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade, and I also teach two Special Education classes. My students enjoy school and are motivated to learn and succeed.
Because our school is still relatively new, I have limited resources. Help from DonorsChoose.org makes it possible for me to stay current on best teaching practices. Your donations will contribute to my success as a teacher and keep my students engaged in learning.
My Project
I have requested a laptop so I can plan lessons to help students learn from home and at school. The new laptop will help with online lessons, online activities, zoom meetings, google classroom, powerpoint slides, etc. There is also a Chrome Music Lab website where students can connect music to science, math, art, and more that I would utilize with the laptop. There are so many online resources that I would be able to better access with updated technology.
The story telling puppets I have requested will make our songs and finger plays come more interactive.
We have three special education clusters that love the songs, "Five Little Ducks, Five Speckled Frogs, Teasing Mr. Crocodile, The Three Bears, and Old Macdonald." With Covid-19, singing is limited, so we are using story telling to liven things up.
I have also asked for magnet building sets so I can integrate STEM in music looking for patterns and connecting music to math. The rhythm activities and frog percussion instruments will help me teach music theory and make our music class a mania of fun! I have also requested incentives to motivate my students to participate and encourage their best behavior.
