This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Scientists have uncovered concrete evidence that playing music can enhance the brain and sharpen hearing," says Charles Q. Choi of Livescience. I teach Pre-k with ESL, economically disadvantaged, and special needs children. Our school is set in the center of an extremely diverse community.

Although I work at a wonderful school, we are a small district and our building is only 3 years old.

Therefore, our funds are minimal compared to large districts and buildings that have been open for years. Most items that are purchased are for the upper grades - especially technology. Sometimes, Pre-K students are not thought of as a priority when thinking of new technology advances

My Project

However, my pre-k kids are growing up surrounded by technology everywhere they go. If the car doesn't move or make noise.. they think it's broken or needs new batteries. I believe my students would benefit greatly with an iPod Touch in our classroom. We can have thousands of wonderful songs from Dr. Jean, Carole Peterson, Stephen Fite and countless other great singers at the tip of our fingers. Also, we can use the iPod for many excellent applications that can be downloaded for free. These apps are designed for students to learn reading, writing, math, art, and other concepts as well.
