Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are part of a blended classroom where there is a mixture of diverse learners with a wide rage of abilities and students who come from the neighborhood which is predominantly Mexican-American. We are building the understanding in students that all are welcome in our special needs inclusive classroom.
My classroom is a little lab to practice life skills, make mistakes and fall in love with learning.
My goal is for my students to understand that learning happens in the world around them, and the best way to teach that is to bring the world to the classroom.
My Project
In our classroom we use the Creative Curriculum, a curriculum using developmentally appropriate lessons surrounding units of study. One unit we plan to study, music making, teaches students different concepts of music.
We will learn that music makes people feel certain ways, music is composed using different types of instruments and also that we can all make music.
We will listen and dance to music. We have set up an “American idol”-esque dramatic play center to perform using the instruments we create. However, we are in need of classroom books to read aloud and keep in our student library.
We are kindly requesting a few books about music to enhance our learning during this study.
