My students need a mobile media center to support us in exploring music from around the world in a way that is easy and fun!

We are a prekindergarten class located within the South Bronx. Our program works with mostly shelter and low income families. The pre-k program is very important to our families because it provides the children within our community, an opportunity to receive a strong foundation and support them on their journey in future educational experiences.
We have a diverse group of students, so finding different ways to teach and support their learning is at the top of our priorities.
I find that quite a few of my students are shy and need a little more attention than others, so we are constantly seeking activities that focus on solidifying friendships and building self-esteem.
My students are inquisitive, funny and just full of life! They ask questions and share their ideas. Children like them are the reason I chose teaching as my profession! I don't think I could have made a better choice in choosing my career. I am truly inspired by them each and everyday.
Music is a universal language that easily brings us all together! My students love to sing, dance and make music of their own however, our music center is very limited. We have one large drum which everyone loves but, not much else when it comes to instruments for the class. The Innocheer musical instruments will be a great asset to our music center. We could then create wonderful music of our own as a class . We are also asking for the portable sit and teach mobile media cart to house our instruments when they are not being used, so that we can keep them clean, organized, and inviting .
When listening to different types of music from around the world, my students can learn lots of new words that they haven't heard before, giving rise to opportunities to engage in deeper verbal interactions and provide our ESL students a chance to develop relationships with their peers and teachers by the same means.
By listening and engaging in activities with music at it's core, it introduces our children to a variety people, regions, and other cultures from around the world. They get to learn new dance moves, songs and how to play instruments in a way that is all their own. This opens up opportunities for dialogue about tolerance, understanding and all around great respect for humanity.
Music is an entity, a platform if you will, that gives our inner child a voice! My students need to see the beauty in this world and music plays a key role in making this happen. The new instruments, Media cart and audio technology, will fill that void we have been battling with thus far!
Music makes the world go round.
