My Students

I teach 4K-8 general music in a small rural school that houses birth-12th grade. The community of the school is wonderful, teachers work together and provide a safe, happy atmosphere for the kids. The poverty rate in this area is very high. They come to music enthusiastic and ready to learn. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday I see every student in grades k-5!

Students love music and have a natural instinct to sing and dance.

I have been developing and using music learning stations to encourage student learning and collaboration. We work together, in small groups and individually in spaces throughout the classroom.

My Project

I am trying to obtain a classroom library full of interesting books on music for my students. We often work in small groups or on paperwork where some kids get done early. Have a classroom library full of books about music and musicians will help them to learn more about music and stay quiet so others can finish their work.

I love to read and our school focuses on literacy for all.

I would love to be able to continue this focus in my classroom, so students can see how music and other disciplines relate, and how learning about all subjects helps them to become a well-rounded individual.
