My Students

PMS has approximately 700 students, around 600 of which are in one of the school’s two music programs. With 600 students in a music program, and over half of those in the band program, funding should be a given. However, in the past 50 years, instruction in the arts have alternately ascended and descended in their popularity, vitality, and support (Petress). The items requested will be vital to keeping the overall music program thriving in all schools for grades K-12 because music has taken some of the biggest and more frequent cuts among the arts due, in great part, to the high costs of sheet music and instrument repair (Petress). Music education and music programs in school are proven to teach more than music; they’ve been shown to be beneficial to students in areas such as dedication, teamwork, self confidence, and more (Petress).

My Project

These pieces, Two by George and Splish Splash will be used in our yearly tour of the elementary schools. It helps with recruiting. The students love learning new pieces and taking advantage of sharing their talents with the younger students in our district. By performing these pieces, we are able to learn, share our love of music, reduce stress, and continue a tradition of great music in our schools. Donations will help those who enjoy music and those who are yet to know their joy of music. Each year we also play along with the high school at a football half time. We are hoping that one of these pieces will be our next feature.
