My students need to see the world and experience cultural events. I am asking for a class field trip to hear, see and experience our own Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
My students attend a Title I elementary school outside the city limits of Atlanta. We are located in a low-income, poor, housing project neighborhood. My students come to school everyday with the desire to learn and to create a successful future for themselves.
There are many existing barriers for my students to overcome in order for them to achieve success.
They are willing to put forth the effort to succeed and become successful, independent thinkers regardless of the situation they may be facing.
Most of my students live with a grandparent in a single guardian household. Our school is the local neighborhood school, which remains a challenge to keep open each year.
Our classrooms are over populated but the children come to school each day with a good attitude and the desire to learn. It is my job to prepare these children for a successful future no matter what direction their journey may take.
Because our school is located in a low income community, our families are not able to offer their children outside activities and community cultural events. Most of our children don't have an opportunity to visit venues outside of their neighborhood except during field trips and other school related activities.
My dream is to provide these children with a day outside of their regular routine. We will put on our best clothes and join together on a Sunday afternoon to watch, listen and enjoy the sounds of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
You never know...this field trip might inspire the next Wynton Marsalis, Stevie Wonder or Michael Jackson.
Thank you for your support. The impact you make on these children's lives is forever.
