My students are dreamers, problem solvers, and likely the most creative little people you will ever meet.
They are a happy group of first graders who love school, and they love to learn.
One hundred percent of our school qualifies for free breakfast and lunch, yet they don't let hardships stand in their way. My students' economic situations are just as varied as are their family dynamics. We have military families, with a local National Guard Unit in our area and an Air Force Base close by. We aim to take good care of our military families. Our district includes an Indian Reservation, and we have a high population of Hispanic students, many of whom have family members that work in the agricultural industry.
My Project
I am excited to help all the students in my school hopefully receive some much needed music materials. The month of March celebrates Music in Our School Month. Our district cannot afford certified music instructors. We have a music teacher that comes to our school part time. She takes each of our classes twice a week. She does an amazing job with our children and puts so much into each of her lessons. She is always making her own displays and activities by hand, and there isn't any money to purchase instruments, music manipulatives, or other items she needs.
Nearly everyone enjoys music, whether by listening to it, singing, or playing an instrument, but despite this almost universal interest, many schools are having to do away with their music education programs.
My students would benefit from the Boomwhackers and the CD. They are tuned plastic percussion tubes. The children will learn rhythm and how to keep a beat. They also need rhythm flash cards and spinners. The children can move up and down the keyboard mats to learn note names, melodic direction, and intervals. The Jumbo Spot markers will give them a space in class. They can perform and explore with the Karaoke Microphone and the Canopy Scarf.
These musical items will enhance all the students not just in my class, but in our entire school. It is time to celebrate music in our school and put music in motion for our children.
