Ms. Giannopoulos from Chicago IL is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need music to get them excited about reading and help them improve their literacy and comprehension skills! That is why I am requesting an iPod and an iHome.

Music is life for high school students. For college-bound students struggling with low comprehension and literacy abilities, music is a highly effective way to facilitate skill growth while retaining motivation and engagement.
The majority of my students will be the first person in their family to attend college.
Many of them face many obstacles simply to walk through the doors every day. Once here, the dedicated staff consistently go above and beyond to ensure student motivation and achievement is high; consistently reminding them that they can go to college and succeed.
As society becomes more and more technology focused, music is a simple and accessible way to get students to connect with language and literature and the greater world around them. My students idolize and model themselves after the musicians they listen to. Using music to illustrate that successful, educated musicians use proper grammar, language and vocabulary in a sophisticated and intelligent manner helps students internalize the importance of the English language. A firm grasp of the English language is a necessary stepping stone for success for college bound students. I am requesting an iPod and speakers to go with it to bring music into the classroom.
For many under-skilled students, music provides an engaging and educational means by which to fully learn vital language skills such as how to understand and analyze poetry; literary devices; rhythm and rhyme schemes; sophisticated sentence structures, etc.
