My students need instruments to have more music in their lives to spark their creativity and give them tools that allow them to express themselves in new ways.
My classroom door is open at 7:45 and by 7:46, it is buzzing with the addictive excitement of hungry minds eagerly waiting to see what the day has in store. I would describe my students as very energetic, full of excitement, and always ready to engage in conversations.
They are great storytellers and have the most amazing imaginations and creativity.
Our school is located on the beautiful island of Oahu, which allows us the privilege of a very active outdoor lifestyle. Students are very proud to attend our school, and it shows with their positive attitudes and readiness to learn.
My Project
Our students need more music in their lives. Music and art are being removed from schools at an alarming rate and that needs to change. I want our students to have the ability to play instruments every day as much as possible.
A 2016 study at the University of Southern California’s Brain and Creativity Institute found that musical experiences in childhood can actually accelerate brain development, particularly in the areas of language acquisition and reading skills.
Music is also a great creative outlet for kids and allows them to explore their creativity and often helps them find a passion for music.
