My students are incredibly enthusiastic. As a first-year teacher, I genuinely could not ask for better humans to teach and to learn with. Every one of my students, from sixth grade band to high school choir, comes in to my classroom ready to sing or play.
I have never in my life encountered kids with such a love for performance.
When they get excited about songs that they have heard out in the world, they love to work out the melody and share it with their peers. I want to be able to both challenge them, and introduce them to new pieces that I know they will love and enjoy.
My Project
Oakwood schools' music libraries need an update! Over the past few months, I have been sorting through, listening to, and locating various pieces of music in Oakwood schools' libraries. The collections that I have gone through at each school are overwhelmingly damaged, outdated, and they have been constantly rotated through for years. I would love to give my students the gift of new music. I want them to be able to experience playing pieces that they recognize, and others that challenge their incredible ability level.
I have selected a variety of pieces that will benefit each and every one of Oakwood schools' performing ensembles.
Playing these pieces will allow students to work on their sight-reading and aural skills, and will generally help them grow as musicians.
