Help me give my students the opportunity to learn how to play the piano.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I recently asked the question, “Why do you think music is important? One student’s response was, “I think music is important because it expresses how people feel. Music is inspiring to me because it puts me in a good vibe, and it makes me feel cheerful. My family's musical culture is reggae and it is important to us because music is a form of celebration when we get together. Music affects me and others because it means more than just lyrics and a beat, it’s an expression of feelings and emotions. Music can be used to teach toddlers such as my baby brother how to speak and count.”
I am fortunate to have excellent and amazing grade 6-8 students who are very enthusiastic about learning.
For many of them, they are being exposed or enrolled in a music course for the first time where they are learning to sing and make music. Music is a universal language; a way of life that exists everywhere. I want my students to be able to gain a greater appreciation and understanding of music by introducing them to the foundation of instrumental music education which includes playing an instrument and the fundamental concepts of music notation.
The aim of my project is to ensure that my students are able to gain a greater understanding of music; through instrumental instruction, they will be able to develop a strong appreciation for music while learning various techniques for playing musical instruments.
Many of my students have expressed their interest in learning how to play the piano.
By donating these instruments, it will provide my students with the equipment needed to assist them with learning how to play the piano through hands-on activities. These hands-on activities will provide fun and interactive learning environment which will increase student learning and achievement.
