Music Enhances Engagement/Stimulates Brain Activity
Help me give my students : The purpose of this project is to give my students, who are fascinated by vinyl records, music in the background to enhance engagement and brain stimulation in an Integrated Arts setting.
Garfield Elementary is the Loveland Integrated School of the Arts. We seek to immerse our students in the arts throughout each day by using as many means as possible. We are a family. Each student, regardless of grade level, is loved and supported by each and every staff member.
Fully implementing visual arts, music, movement, and drama are the lifeblood of Garfield.
We seek to teach not only using the arts, but to develop a deeper respect and appreciation for the many elements of the arts within each and every student. Approximately 60% of our student body would be considered in poverty, but with the help of the arts and the concepts we teach, prove the statistics wrong. They rise to become leaders in our building and our 5th graders eventually head off to be leaders in our middle schools.
My Project
This project is intended to make the classroom environment, post COVID, more engaging and stimulating for students. Music is the international language and my students (in our integrated arts school) enjoy music in the background while working on projects. I also plan to use instrumental music in the background to promote brain activity/stimulation while working on assignments. Brain studies have shown the benefits of "background music" to stimulate the brain, allowing for deeper and clearer thinking. My school is an integrated arts school, so this project fits perfectly and will allow me to use the arts in multiple ways in my classroom.
