My students are creative beings that wish to explore music at the intermediate level. Their taste in music revolves around R & B, Jazz and Ballads. The students enjoy the excitement of creating sounds that blend well together, they like to create their own sound when a jam session is called. They are a passionate group that searches to create something that people will feel through their own musical ability. To create a world using musical sound as their palette.
One of my main goals as a teacher is to facilitate their ability to pursue their dreams and passions, in order to build their confidence as they thread into their goals courageously.
My students come from all five boroughs of New York City and have diverse backgrounds. Each and every one of them bring a unique sound and mind into this endeavor. For the most part they have limited means and are not able to actively pursue their passions.
My Project
At our school, Stephen T. Mather high school, we have many individuals that seek to be in music classes, yet it is difficult to provide this experience if we lack the instruments to give such education. Many aspire to play congas or drums, as to try to give more connect to their cultures rhythmic styles. While others aspire to try out a saxophone, trumpet, or guitar, in hopes of imitating their favorite artist or sounds ranging from Rock and Roll to R&B.
Their vision ranges as far as the sky, and I would like to help them begin their journey up to the stars.
By gaining the materials that are fundraised through this platform, the students will be able to collaborate together and work towards a single goal of playing music for our school events. They will be able to express and perform on stage in front of their peers. This in essence will build confidence in the students overtime, which will also affect other aspects of their lives. This drum set and Hi Hat will be the first of many instruments I am trying to attain.
