Our school is in a rural area that unfortunately suffers from a high unemployment rate and many broken families.
Our district is innovative and has excellent teachers and administrators, but unfortunately, like so many other districts, budgetary cutbacks have been unavoidable.
We still want to try to get what is best for our students, opportunities that cannot be funded through the regular budget.
My students have a true love for performing. They want desperately to be a part of something, but we need help acquiring what they need. Our school budget can only go so far. Therefore, we need to find creative new sources for acquiring equipment.
My Project
We would like to get an additional Chromebook to use for music classes and music-related apps. Our school uses Google apps heavily, and we do not have enough Chromebooks to go around for everyone that needs them. Hopefully, we can fund this project and get another Chromebook to use for Google apps for education since not everyone has access to them at home.
Students are in charge of keeping all of our electronic devices charged and in good condition.
The students help clean screens and disinfect the iPads and Chromebooks every week or two. We are also responsible for returning all devices back to their storage spots at the end of every class.
We work in learning teams and collaborate on almost all projects. Google apps make it possible for students who do not have access to word processing and slide show software at home to share and create work using apps like Google docs and Google slides.
With a Chromebook in our classroom, we will be able to start these project in class and continue them during the off-school time. Some of us do not have access to a computer or the Internet at home, so our classroom Chromebook will give us an opportunity to participate in their group projects during school time.
