Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students represent all the best qualities of our city's Hispanic community: its language, culture, history, accomplishments, and dreams! From our youngest to our oldest, the students actively engage in exploration of who they are through a rigorous bilingual education that places the fine arts among the more traditional "core" academic subjects.
When students enter my room, they are all musicians.
It is an impressively broad role; they are creators, composers, singers, instrumentalists, dancers, listeners, and so much more. In music class, students carry on a tradition as old as human history, and they make it clear that the future of music is in good hands!
My Project
What do music and books have in common? Both help a child's development as a thinker, learner, reader, listener, and compassionate individual, qualities which are invaluable in both school and beyond.
When we read to children in music class, we reinforce our dedication to multidisciplinary instruction and educating the whole child.
I will use these books in music class to enhance our learning of children's songs, genres, composers, and significant moments in music history. Additionally, the music room library will be open to students to explore when they have extra time in class, or when they have opportunities to learn independently.
