I am a first year music teacher at a brand new school! Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade ask me every day if they can play instruments, but I have very little to offer them. We are still getting to know each other (it's only our fourth week of school because of Hurricane Florence), but these children are smart and eager to learn.
Teaching music without instruments is like teaching reading without books.
My students deserve a well rounded education which, as we all know, includes an education in the arts. Primary school is the time in life when students should have the opportunity to experiment with all sorts of learning. I have some amazing singers, but some students will not engage in music without having the opportunity to play instruments. I have so many plans that I cannot wait to implement with instruments in the music classroom!
My Project
The headphones will be perfect for centers. I love to do listening centers, but listening with the speakers playing while other students do work gets noisy. Headphones will help students to hear music and to focus on their work.
Music stands are a must for any music program.
Stands need to be used for students playing instruments and for the conductor to have music in front of her while conducting concerts.
Rhythms sticks are basic tools necessary for anything involving little ones and music. They can also double as drum sticks when we begin our bucket drumming unit! These supplies may seem simple, but they will make big differences.
