Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

The seventeen students in my third grade classroom often need differentiated instruction to reach their full potential. I am interested in using music and rhythm to help them grasp reading and literacy concepts. The musical set I am requesting can be used by the entire classroom to help them build on their musical knowledge and kinesthetic abilites to develop reading skills. Musical intelligence is one of the strategies that can be incorporated with other intelligences to guide reading instruction. As their teacher, I am interested in providing the class with a variety of strategies that will appeal to students hwo have different strengths. I will try to use the musical sets to appeal to the student's musical intelligences to give them differentiated instruction. Some of the activities that can be performed to prepare reading instruction include singing and playing the musical instruments along with the story. Students can march in a parade while singing a song related to the story. Finally, during a shared reading, the students can create actions to fit the plot. I believe this donation will greatly benefit my third grade classroom.
