My Students

F.P. Elementary School students are special. We are a small community and the school is a Title one school. The school community, Teachers, and parents are very involved and care about their children. Many of our students live in housing communities and do not have access to play areas. Even so, they enjoy learning about their body and exercising. They participate daily in some kind outdoor activities and understand that an active healthy body, makes an active healthy mind.

My Project

I am requesting an iPod and a portable speaker for our Physical Education program to incorporate music and movement. The sound system we use in PE now only works 1/2 the time, is antiquated, and is not loud enough to use with the number of students under the PE pavilion.

Rhythmics in Physical Education improves listening skills, enhances language development and verbal skills, helps students to become more disciplined, and has health benefits such as stress reduction and better sleep.

Incorporating fitness and music education promotes life-long fitness, health, and wellness and reduces risk of chronic disease. Music along with movement teaches self-management skills and motor skills that can be used to plan for and perform life-long physical activity.
