In my classroom we are always looking for new ways to learn about music. "Freddie the Frog" is a children's book series that tells stories using the music staff! These books create a bridge between literacy and music.The students love the one "Freddie" book we have and are asking for more!
Our school serves preschool through fifth grade students from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds.
We are a Title I school of approximately 880 students and we are continuing to grow! Our school has received many awards for closing the achievement gap and raising scores. We value student diversity and celebrate the leader in each of our students. We were recently awarded Lighthouse Status as a "Leader In Me" School
My Project
My kids love Freddie the Frog and Eli the Elephant! They ask to hear about their adventures and always want to identify the places on the staff that we read about in the book. For this Donors Choose project I am asking for Freddie the Frog books 2, 3, 4, and 5 so we can read more about Freddie and Eli's adventures on Treble Clef Island! I have also requested Freddie and Eli puppets and a Treble Clef Island map. It is my hope that these new books and manipulatives will help bring the stories to life for my students!
By attaching music to literacy, the lessons have double the impact.
Students are twice as likely to retain what they learn, and students that retain what they learn will grow into more skillful musicians. Thank you for considering my project!
