My 7th and 8th grade students come every day ready to learn. They're at the perfect age in their education where their curiosity can't be satiated. They possess this eagerness to learn because there is so much about the world they still don't understand. Yet there are so many obstacles standing in their way.
These are high-poverty students.
What's more, these kids face adult-like struggles every day outside of the classroom. Often this classroom is the most stable and structured environment that they have. Having books like these on hand only helps to maintain that stability for them.
It's very hard to get middle school students interested in reading these days. With so many other ways to receive information, reading is usually the last thing they want to do. As a teacher, I have to find books that will pull them in and won't let them go.
They love to read about murder!
Mystery, intrigue, and murder are the best ways to get my students' attention, and Christie's book has them all. Unfortunately, these are high poverty students who cannot afford resources of their own. It's up to teachers like me and donors like you to bridge that gap and help them to access valuable literature. Please help me give my students something they actually want to read so that I can use it to actually teach them lessons they actually will remember.
