Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with a great group of bilingual students who are amazing! The students come from a high-need community with VERY limited resources. The majority of the students come from homes considered to be in the lower socio economic status. It is a majority Latino community with many of the parents having to work more than one job to make ends meet. More than 50% of our classrooms are bilingual classrooms. I want to give my students the opportunity to have more engaging lessons. My students also enjoy learning through technology and hands on activities. I am working towards providing more books, technology, and hands on activities for my students.
My Project
A lot of the arts has been taken out of many schools. I am working on bringing the arts back to our campus. I work with students from several grade levels and would like to create some art-based projects that will go with the students' regular curriculum in reading, math, and science. We will be reading A Little Red Hen in a few weeks and this project will allow me to create a Mural Response to the book. I will ask the students to create a different ending to the book. The paper will be used as part of the mural and then students will present their project by retelling the new ending of the book.
