Do you know the name Robert Munsch? If your answer is no, then you do not know what you've missed as a child! He's an amazing children's author! If your answer is yes, then you understand why, as a teacher, I would like to bring this author to life in my classroom.
The students I have the privilege of teaching are amazing!
I am a public school teacher in New York and have been teaching for fifteen years. I love the school and the children that attend it. They are special children with incredible abilities. What makes these children amazing is the fact that many of them come from homes in which their parents are immigrants; many of which do not speak English and are uneducated themselves. These children have been raised to understand the importance of an education.
My Project
These hilarious Robert Munsch books will be used for various purposes within my classroom. I would use these books for an author study. This means I will read these books every day to the students during our read aloud time. These books are so funny that the children will be engaged during this time. We will also study the style of writing the author uses. The goal in doing this is for the children to become familiar with different writing styles and to hopefully mimic this author's style during writing time. Eventually, the children will publish their own books that mock the Robert Munsch books.
The children will also spend time memorizing their favorite Robert Munsch book. They will pair up and we will have a story telling day where the parents can come to school and the children will recite their favorite book. I've done this activity in the past and the children really love it!
Having these books will not only help us accomplish some goals for the 2012-2013 school year, but they can be added to our classroom library for the children to enjoy and take home to read.
It will make it a lot easier for us if the books were readily accessible in the classroom and we didn't have to spend time trying to locate all the books in a public library. These books will enhance my students' reading and writing skills and motivate them to study different authors and to read. Thank you!
