My students need exciting multisensory literacy and math activities like Mr. Sketch markers, puzzles, word family games, Spot-It, alphabet games and more to help reinforce these new skills!
While many people choose to visit our beautiful area for the history, beaches, and amusements, our school is in an urban area. As a Title I school, we are over 44% English Language Learners (ELL), with all of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch and 11% of our children identifying as homeless. Many students are new to our country or our area, and about 1/3 move during the school year. Though some of our students face daunting challenges, they are eager to learn, grow, and experiment.
Our students are funny, bright, imaginative, and motivated.
Many are raised in single-parent homes and deal with housing crises due to high rental rates and seasonal shortages. Though we all live within minutes of the beach, many have never been on a boat. Though many experience hardships of different kinds, they are excited to learn and eager to grow in confidence in their ability to become star students!
My goal is to help increase my students' wonder and engagement in the world around them by creating strong, interesting, thoughtful lessons, and projects which make learning exciting! During their first year in public school, I am honored to share the beginning of their journey!
My Project
My students are learning letters, words and numbers in Kindergarten. They are working on putting together all of this exciting and new information since starting school, and we are always looking for fun ways to add to our learning.
Kindergarten is all about instilling the love of school through creative ways to learn!
Using markers with yummy scents, puzzles with well-loved book characters and activities that challenge and grow our brains are always a huge hit!
The more we can play as we learn important skills, the more students develop a love of learning and a desire to continue to grow! Games, puzzles and drawing keep kids excited about letters, numbers and their ability to start to read! It is awesome to watch them say, "Look, I can read!"
