Multisensory Classroom for Social-Emotional Needs

Help me give my students calming sensory tools to minimize distraction and help focus, as well as updated technology to quickly assess students and fill in any learning gaps.

My Project

I work with preschoolers with severe delays, usually in communication, and they need all the help they can get to regulate their emotions, remain calm and focused, follow directions, and learn how to interact appropriately with adults and peers. Pre-K is an important time to develop children’s social and emotional growth. With adult facilitation, pre-K students will learn about self-awareness, social awareness, and will have the opportunity to engage with others throughout the day while reinforcing social-emotional growth.

Requested resources will support students’ social, emotional, and mental well-being as well as the impacts of interrupted learning as a result of COVID-19.

These supplies can be used for Calming strategies impacting Social-Emotional growth, Response to Intervention, and bridging the ever-growing Gap in the Education of our students. They include supplies for the students and staff to use, games for social learning, and academic intervention as COVID-19 has driven a larger gap in their academic and social emotional learning.

The updated technology is particularly important to access the digital curriculum and quickly assess students in each area of development to drive more accurate lesson plans to fill in the academic gaps. The room divider creates not only a physical boundary but also a visual one to reduce overstimulation and help focus. The sensory tools help students regulate their emotions and build a multi-sensory classroom that can accommodate any student.
