My Project

My students are quite young and never experienced virtual learning. However, they suffered the consequences of their parents heightened stress and possibly more screen time because of parents working from home during the COVID pandemic.

Children these days don't hear nursery rhymes at home like they did years ago.

This is impacting children because in order to learn letters and sounds to read and write, they need to have an understanding of sounds without written print first. The materials I requested will help children with this skill in a multisensory way of learning. Letters made of sandpaper, letter stamps, sound cups are all tools that will help children map letters to the sound they make.

I've also requested sensory items for helping children deal with big emotions. Edcuators are noticing students coming to us with bigger emotions since COVID and we must adjust our teaching to best serve our changing children. A cuddle ball is a tool my students will use to help calm down when they are having a big feeling.
