The last few years of high school can be the turning point in a young adult's education. During this period, students are beginning to make important decisions about life after high school. In my classroom, students study not only literary topics but also how to prepare themselves for the realities of the outside world.
My goal is to help my students discover their passions, create realistic goals to pursue them, and problem solve along the way.
I am proud to represent a diverse group of students who are confident, relentless in the face of adversity, and embody the bright future of our workforce and communities.
In the English hallway at our school, we have a small multipurpose room with a very long table and a printer. My colleagues and I use this room to accommodate students with IEPS and 504s when they need to have a separate setting. It's used as space for a student to cool down if they are emotionally upset. It's also used for group projects, reading, independent study, to record video projects requiring quiet, and as a place for staff to eat lunch and meet for professional development.
For such an important space with high usage, the room itself is uninspiring and less than adequately furnished.
In this project, I'm asking for a set of 12 simple chairs to replace the random assortment of broken and stained chairs in the room. These chairs will give students and staff a chance to sit comfortably and focus on what matters most--education.
Additionally, I'm asking for a commercial microwave for student and staff use. With COVID-19 changing the norms of schools on the horizon, we want to be prepared to accommodate student and staff lunches (on our hall). This will help limit the use of other microwaves at the other end of the school that are used by hundreds of people daily.
Thank you for your consideration of the learning and health of our students and staff!
