My Project

My students range in personality and interests just as much as they range in communication abilities. With a small space to work, many interests to gear towards, and a plethora of different goals to target, miniatures for a variety of functions can help elicit functional communication in several ways along with being storage friendly. I hope to be able to use these materials for motivating speech, identifying, labeling, describing, comparing, functional sorting, describing functions, clarifying and expanding utterances, expanding conversational turns, just to name a few. Drilling with picture cards is not as emotionally exciting nor memorable as functional play. I hope to imprint memorable experiences with the opportunity to communicate what each student's hopes, desires, fears, and concerns might be. I want each student to be able to express to a caring adult what goes on inside their minds and hearts to their best capability.
