My students need materials to practice place value and multiplication tables. My students love the checkerboard but I don't have enough boards or beads. They also love the Pythagoras and Multiplication Boards.

My Students

I teach in a Montessori based charter school. The words that best describe my students are curious and future lifelong learners. Their learning needs and modalities are diverse. In my class, students speak four different languages. Their mathematical abilities range from counting to pre-algebra. Their writing abilities range from learning the alphabet to writing essays. The one thing my students do have in common is that they are part of a learning community. In this community, they pursue their learning goals and support each other in their never-ending quest for knowledge.

My Project

My students love Montessori multiplication materials especially the checkerboard, but I don't have enough of them. This limits the student's opportunities to explore the concept of multiplication. I like these materials because my students become fascinated with the concept of multiplication when using them. They actually ask me to teach them how to use the checkerboard and it is disheartening when I have to tell them no because I don't have enough materials.

I really need a Pythagoras board.

I made a replica of the Pythagoras board by copying one and laminating it. The results were not satisfactory. The students love looking for patterns but the laminated materials just do not work. I need a real one.
