My Project

The constant use of reading & math file folder activities in my classroom helps to engage my special education students with interesting visuals, challenging tasks, and the independent practice it provides. It is also a way to differentiate instruction to meet the unique needs of my amazing students. While these activities are beneficial to my students, they are also time consuming and expensive to make. This requires me to create all of these activities by utilizing lamination sheets, velcro dots, scissors, color markers, glue sticks, tape, and color file folders. Another beneficial item to my classroom would be high interest incentives, as they are great motivators in getting my students to complete their tasks. Incentives of magnetic tiles and kinetic sand would allow my students a hands-on way to express & explore their imagination. Thus giving them another way to communicate and show their creativity.

By donating to this project you will be able to help students with special needs demonstrate another way to show their understanding and give them added confidence in their learning capabilities.

Project funding would also go towards materials needed to implement Orton-Gillingham explicit instruction which is a multisensory approach to teaching, reading, writing & spelling and has been highly successful for students with disabilities. Items such as plastic mesh canvas, 2 different colors of sand, red crayons, folders, and sheet protectors would give each of my students their own set of materials. Further, aiding in their success in literacy, which is difficult to achieve for students at a Title 1 school like ours. Additionally, supplies to help in class organization and art activities are needed. Materials of paper clips, magnetic clips, name plates, various pens, dry erase markers, acrylic paints, sharpies, rubber bands and color markers would greatly benefit my classroom.
