Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each day is a new day of learning for my students. I help to foster learning with students in 2nd and 3rd grade under the eligibility of Autism in a Moderate/Severe Special Education Classroom.
My students are full of curiosity and eager to explore and learn new things.
Each of my students bring something new to the table and require a different approach, accommodation or modification to their learning experience. They are eager to learn and each of them their in their own unique way and at their own pace. They are a very diverse group of students that constantly help me to grow as an educator.
My Project
My students are in need of multiple avenues to learn language, communication, social and academic skills. Currently, there are not many Autism friendly manipulative or instruments in the classroom. The materials from this project would greatly impact their engagement in their own learning process.
My students have high sensory needs and benefit from learning with things they can manipulate in their hands.
The kinetic sand and play dough allow my students to work on colors and manipulation with their hands while also meeting their sensory needs. All of the materials are multifunctional and serve more than one purpose for my students'. The Language Learning Instant Centers all my students to work on language, fine motor and socialization skills. The Fine Motor Games allow my students to work on fine motor skills, turn taking, communication and language and math skills as well. The wobble seats allow my students to move and get out their energy in a positive and appropriate way while still being engaged in an academic activity.
My approach is to maximize their learning in each lesson as best as I can with the materials that I have.
