Mr. Soylu from Baltimore MD is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a Multimedia Headset with Microphone so they can achieve English language fluency and become a confident English speaker!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
In our ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) Program, we have 77 ELL (English Language Learner) students. Majority of them come from El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala while a few others come from Egypt, Yemen, and Bangladesh.
The focus of the ESOL Program is to provide effective English language instruction with the goal of students acquiring English language proficiency and the acquisition of academic language.
The number of ELL students is growing rapidly in our school. Today, nearly 10 percent of school population are ELL students. And just like native English-speaking students, not all ELL students are alike. Our students have a range of English proficiency and come from diverse linguistic, cultural, and educational backgrounds. Because they are still learning English, ELL students have difficulty keeping up with their native English-speaking peers.
The multimedia (audio-visual) materials are an integral part of the instructional materials that we use on a daily basis and they are also regarded as main component of language learning materials that support English Language learners with their acquisition of four language skills.
First of all, our students need these headsets to be able to use audio-visual language learning materials available in our ESOL classroom.
Moreover, we need the headsets for administering the ACCESS for ELLs Online (ACCESS Online), which is a computer-based English Proficiency test. This assessment is given annually to students in Grades 1-12. It tests students' language in four domains: Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing.
