Help me give my students toys which represent the multicultural society we live in. Our children deserve to play with toys that look like them! These dollhouse people and block figures will allow my students to do that.
My kindergarten class is full of excited learners! Not only are they learning letters, counting and how to write, but they also learn so much through play and social interactions! My students are 4-6 years old and learn a great deal about communication, turn-taking, and problem-solving through playtime. While many kindergarten classes are having to remove play from their day, I am fighting to keep that special time in my students' day!
In addition, our student population is becoming more and more diverse.
It is important that that diversity is reflected in the classroom materials our students are using every day.
My Project
I have chosen several diverse playsets to add to my classroom. It is so important that our students see themselves represented in all areas of our classrooms, including the toys they play with!
I have selected a set of diverse families to go in our dollhouse center.
This will allow students of varied backgrounds to see themselves and their families in these toys. Additionally, I would like some small block figures that depict characters with a variety of ethnic backgrounds. My students love to play with these building blocks and currently, the only figures I could find were all Caucasian. Funding this project will bring much-needed diversity to my classroom and help it feel more inclusive!
