My students need current, engaging, and multi-cultural books to read. The books on this list are diverse award winning texts and appealing to children. I want to offer my students rich literary experiences.

My Students

My 3rd-grade classroom is filled with passionate learners. We come from a small farming community with only about 70 students per grade level. The small class sizes only highlights how close knit and caring these students are for each other. The teachers and students have family-like relationships and we all work together as a team to ensure that our kids will go on to be successful in life, not just academically but as people of character.

Caring for a child means caring for all of their needs and our school does a wonderful job of fulfilling that mission.

My Project

My students come from a rural, small town school. It is filled with students and teachers that look like them. I would like my students to be exposed to people from all walks of life and learn skills such as empathy, compassion, and fearlessness from these characters. Books that are rich in not only diverse characters, but diverse authors, are proven to expand the horizons of our students minds. I aim to update my classroom library and offer my students texts that are a wide range of interests, levels, and styles. My students have a variety of interests and are currently reading texts that have generously been donated to me by family members and former teachers, but are outdated and unappealing to the newest generation of learners.
