My Students

Our students are proud of their diversity and being part of an international school. It makes me so happy when I see my students getting excited about their culture and other cultures. When I shared a poster image of a sculpture from Pakistan, one student shot her hand up and excitedly shared with us that Pakistan was her home country! I strive to bring in culturally diverse content and projects to broaden my student's knowledge and understanding of other cultures.

In my art room, we celebrate our cultural differences and pursue lessons that teach the importance of diversity.

Having such a diverse student body leaves a wide avenue for culturally diverse art projects and lessons. My students are surrounded by peers with different backgrounds. I strive to celebrate these differences.

My Project

In a school where the student body is culturally diverse, it is essential to provide material that will coincide with their identity. When my students have done self portraits in the past, teaching my students which colors to use for their skin has been a challenge because their is only a "peach" crayon and a "brown" crayon in the original crayon box. In reality, there is a much wider range of skin tones.

With the gift of multicultural crayons and markers, my students will be able to accurately portray their own skin tone in their self portraits.

This will lead to a more realistic artwork.
