Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Cooking in school?? Yes that's right. I want to teach my Food and Nutrition classes how to make great multicultural decisions while in the kitchen. With your help we can make this possible!
I teach Family and Consumer Science in a low income rural school with a very high Hispanic population.
Our school is fortunate to be able to offer FACS (aka Home Ec) classes to our students. It's in this class where they receive hands on instruction on how to prepare food and hopefully make good nutritional decisions.
My Project
I am asking for mulitcultural cookbooks to get more ideas on how to make my Food and Nutrition class more interesting. I want my students to learn how to make other dishes besides spaghetti and hamburgers or worse of all going through the fast food drive through! My students come from various ethnic backgrounds. For example I have students from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and even Alabama!! :) I want to bring them in to the idea of serving dishes from other places and having fun doing it.
Would you help me teach good nutrition to my students while incorporating recipes from other countries?
