Hans Christian Anderson once said "Where Words Fail, Music Speaks." Many students in middle school are self-conscious about singing in their General Music classes due to the challenge of changing voices. To allow their music to speak, my students need other outlets for their voices to be heard.
My students range from grades six through eight.
Though many of these students have an interest in participating in our school's music program, many cannot due to their socioeconomic situation. I have personally purchased many things for my music classroom, such as music, piano keyboards, and small drums in order to give my students the opportunity to have a hands-on musical experience. Through the generosity of donors on Donorscchoose.org, I have also been able to get additional items as well. However, with twenty-six students per class, there are simply not enough instruments for everyone. It is my hope to allow my students to experience the music of all of the cultures of the world. My students need to be able to perform music from various cultures!
My Project
My students are in need of musical instruments, such as ukuleles, for the General Music classroom. Rather than simply enjoying listening to music, I want to allow my students to experience playing in an ensemble. My students will use these instruments to learn to play rhythms, as well as learn to play melody and harmony. Some students have been experimenting with composing their own music, so these instruments could also help with their composing! I am striving to give my students full immersion in the musical experience! By adding ukuleles to the experience, it will help to foster their lifelong love of music.
Please support my young musicians.
Your generous donation would have such a tremendous effect on my students' musical experience. It is my hope for each of my students to have a complete musical experience, from learning music theory and piano basics, to making cultural connections in World Music. There is so much more that students can get out of music class when they can achieve this full musical experience!
