My Project

This project celebrates our increasingly diverse world. Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop, known as the "mother of multicultural children's literature", believes students need to see themselves represented in the books they read and they need to able to hear stories of people unlike them. This is integral to the social and emotional development of adolescents. By reading diverse stories, students grow as readers, as consumers of information, and as empathetic humans. Literature helps young people orient themselves to the complexities of life while learning about themselves. These book club options will allow students to be able to choose from highly engaging and diverse young adult books.
