Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from a large, urban community that welcomes families from all over the globe. They bring a special blend of linguistic diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences and culture to our school. We are a Title I school in a low-income community; I have twenty-six English Language Learner (ELL) students in my classroom. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day, which are now remotely served.
My students are creative, clever and very enthusiastic about learning.
The majority of my students read below grade level. They would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to help increase their success in our newly established distance remote learning platform. As of March 17th, my students will be learning at home. School will be closed due to the COVID-19 virus for the rest of the school year. This presents a challenge, as most of my students do not have access to supplies in their homes.
My Project
My quest as a teacher is to instill in my students that everyone matters. We are all different, but that is what makes us all special.
This collection of multicultural literature is perfect to use with my students during this time.
With distance learning our new normal I feel that it is more important than ever to keep reading to our students. With virtual learning continuing I love to read to my students. This will give me the opportunity to introduce new, exceptional, quality literature to my students to keep them engaged.
