Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom is full of 40 energetic kindergarten students with big hearts and great minds. Located in a low socioeconomic area in Denver, students in this classroom are the most deserving group of hard workers!
The students work hard every day.
These kindergarten students are curious about the world around them and need the classroom space to explore things they may otherwise not have the chance to explore. Their minds are like sponges, and they are thirsty for knowledge in the classroom environment. It is a joy to work with such energetic students.
My Project
Our Kindergarten and first grade students will be learning about fairy tales in an upcoming literacy unit. The books I have found in our library portray original fairy tales that, at times, lack multiple perspectives and multiculturalism.
We want our students to see themselves in the books we read.
By exposing students to multiple versions of fairy tales from different cultural perspectives, we will be able to more successfully help our students engage in the text to reach the literacy outcomes we expect. This engagement will help our diverse group of students develop concepts and their love of literature for a lifetime.
