Hello, I am a Pre-Kindergarten teacher in the York School District One District of South Carolina. The four-year-old program at my school is open to students who qualify, either due to academic need, or they are from a low-income family. My students are precious and they deserve the very best start to public education. Many of these children need extra love and support to start school off successfully.
This project is important because in our classroom we are required to have multicultural books that are diverse for our children.
Many students come from differing cultural backgrounds and a goal of our curriculum is that all students are able to see themselves in books I am excited to be able to give them the gift of reading and enjoying books.
My Project
These multicultural books will help students be able to see themselves in stories they are able to pick up and hold. I teach children who are from Hispanic and African American cultures and they get so excited about familiar texts. My goal as a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher is to teach my students a love of learning that only comes from books. Laying a good solid literacy foundation for students during the early years is so important. I cannot wait to get these books in and share them with the class. Most of these books will be for student enjoyment in centers around the classroom.
